"EastEnders to air iconic Pride episode on BBC One"
EastEnders will re-air the iconic Pride episode on BBC One next week. The episode in question sees the residents of Walford gather for the borough’s first ever Gay Pride celebrations, with several mainstays such as Big Mo Harris (Laila Morse) and Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) getting into the spirit of things.
It’s a special day for Bernie Taylor (Clair Norris), who fully embraces who she is with the support of Tina Carter (Luisa Bradshaw-White).
However, there’s panic afoot for Callum ‘Halfway’ Highway (Tony Clay), who’s confronted by Stuart (Ricky Champ) about his moment with Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) the night before, and conflict ensues as a result.
EastEnders was forced to halt production amid the coronavirus pandemic back in March, and as a result, episodes were rationed out at two a week instead of the typical four. However, the pre-lockdown instalments have since completed airing, meaning that for the first time in it’s 35 year history, EastEnders has come off the air.
A special series — presented by Stacey Dooley — entitled Secrets From The Square has been airing on Monday nights, and it features in depth interviews with various cast members.
Syed’s (Marc Elliot) wedding to Amira (Preeya Kalidas) from 2010 is this week’s iconic episode, ahead of Pride next week.
The soap’s 5,949th episode, Pride is a more recent offering — having originally been broadcast on July 5 ,2019 — but it’s every bit as memorable and important as the previous instalments broadcast during the Iconic Episodes slot.
